The NFL offseason got a shot in the arm Monday with the news that Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts signed an extension that made him the highest paid player in the league.
Hurts has grown into an elite pivot in his three years as a professional, and the 2022 season saw the 24-year-old put up career-high numbers nearly across the board. With his rookie contract set to expire at the end of next season, the Eagles saw it prudent to lock down their emerging superstar, inking Hurts to a jaw-dropping five-year, $255 million extension.
The new contract comes with over $179 million in guaranteed money, and averages out to $51 million per year.
While Hurts' average yearly salary puts him atop the list, he still trails Deshaun Watson's guaranteed money ($230 million) and is well behind Patrick Mahomes in total compensation across a single contract ($450 million).
