The Kansas City Chiefs have handed Travis Kelce a new contract that makes him the highest-paid tight end in the NFL.
The two-year deal comes after the 34-year-old won a third Super Bowl ring with the Chiefs after they saw off the San Francisco 49ers in overtime in February’s Super Bowl LVIII.
His new deal is worth $34.25million, as per the NFL Network, with his average salary of $17.125million per season the top among all tight ends in the league.
Over the past 11 seasons, Kelce has consistently been at the top of all statistical categories for tight ends, enjoying seven straight 1,000-plus receiving yards seasons before falling just shy of that mark last season.
He has been named to nine Pro Bowls and snagged four first-team All-Pro selections, while also being named on the Hall of Fame’s All-Decade Team for the 2010s.
His partnership with Patrick Mahomes has been especially productive in recent years, with a first Super Bowl title coming in 2019, before the team became the first franchise to land back-to-back Vince Lombardi Trophies for 19 years at the end of the 2023 season.
Mahomes was quick to react on X to his teammates’ new deal, posting: “I told yall I’ll never let him leave!! Congrats my guy!”.
Kelce has a total of 907 passes over his 11 seasons on the NFL for 11,328 yards and 74 touchdowns and a career that will see him end up in the Hall of Fame now looks set to continue into his late-30s.
