Two time Super Bowl winner Torrey Smith says he has more trust in San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy than Detroit Lions' Jared Goff.

Purdy and Goff go head-to-head on Sunday as they hope to lead their teams to the Super Bowl.

The 49ers finished the regular season as the NFC's number on seed, but the Detroit Lions are in the midst of a history-making season and have all the momentum behind them.

Smith, who won a Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles, praised Goff for the season he has had, but still picked Purdy as his preferred quarterback.

"I think Jared Goff has been excellent this year overall, but I'm still going Brock Purdy," Smith told the Up & Adams show.

"People have been hard on him [Purdy], people have treated him like he's a bum and that's not the case.

"It's unfair to him that he gets criticised for having the running back, having the wide receivers and having a good offensive line.

"He's been penalised by the public for having a good environment, a healthy environment for a quarterback.

"Overall he has played well, yes the last game wasn't his best game, but that doesn't mean he's not your franchise quarterback.

"You can win a Super Bowl with Purdy at quarterback and I think they stand a good chance of doing it."
