Many feel the 2023 season could be make or break for New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones.
After being drafted by the franchise in 2021, Jones had huge shoes to fill following the departure of Patriots legend Tom Brady, and in his debut season it looked like he had settled into the offense finishing second in the voting for the Offensive Rookie of the Year.
The following season on the other hand was one to forget. Suffering an ankle injury in week three, Jones found himself on the sidelines with backup Bailey Zappe putting his case forward as to why he should be the starter. Jones returned to full fitness four weeks later, but was unable to land the Patriots a spot in the postseason.
Now after many positive reports surrounding Jones' performances during training camp, fans will be hoping he can push the Patriots on and take the franchise into the playoffs once more.
Ahead of the new season, DAZN takes a look at the career of the Patriots quarterback below.
Where was Mac Jones selected in the NFL Draft?
Going into the 2021 NFL Draft, Mac Jones was touted as one of the top quarterback prospects, but what many did not expect was how late he would be drafted.
Many analysts believed that Jones would be the third overall pick and heading to the San Francisco 49ers, who instead opted for North Dakota State QB Trey Lance.
This surprise move resulted in Jones being selected 15th overall by the New England Patriots and signing a four-year rookie contract.
Where did Mac Jones play quarterback at college?
Mac Jones joined the University of Albama in 2017 and spent three years with the Crimson Tide before arriving in the NFL.
Jones, however, did not become the starting quaterback until his final season in 2020 when Tua Tagovailoa was drafted to the Miami Dolphins. What followed was a number of eye-catching perfomances under centre.
One example being the 2020 SEC Championship Game against Florida where Jones threw for 418 yards and five touchdowns in a 52-46 win for Alabama.
What NFL accolades has Mac Jones been awarded?
Mac Jones may only be entering his third season in the NFL, but he already has some accolades to his name.
Following an impressive debut season in 2021, Jones was named in the PFWA All-Rookie Team and a year later was selected to feature for the AFC in the Pro Bowl.
