The Super Bowl MVP is a prestigious award.

When it comes to American sports, the best performing player is given the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award as a sign of recognition for their achievements during a season.

The NFL is somewhat different when it comes to this award. This is because the league picks not one, but two MVPs. One award is given to the best performing player throughout the regular season, and then a second MVP award is given to the best performing player in the Super Bowl, the final game of the NFL season.

DAZN explains why there is a special Super Bowl MVP award and which player has been the most successful when it comes to receiving this accolade.

What is the Super Bowl MVP award?

The Super Bowl MVP award is presented to the standout player from the NFL's showpiece game.

Who decides the winner of the Super Bowl MVP award?

The receipient of this award is chosen by a panel of 16 NFL writers and broadcasters.

This then changed at Super Bowl XXXV in 2001 when fans were given the chance to vote for the MVP electronically.

When it comes to the split in the voting, the NFL media's ballots count for 80% of the vote while the fans make up the other 20%.

Who has won the most Super Bowl MVP awards?

Tom Brady has won this award on five occasions, four times with the New England Patriots and once with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Who won the 2023 Super Bowl MVP award?

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was given the award at Super Bowl LVII after his team beat the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 in Arizona.
