Shakur Stevenson would be ready to move up to 140lbs if he is unable to find a bout at lightweight, even believing he could defeat unified champion Josh Taylor.

The experienced Scot was undisputed at super lightweight but after considering a move up to welterweight he appeared to ditch that plan in favour of a rematch with Jack Catterall, who pushed him hard in his last outing.

Stevenson was a unified champion at super featherweight but failed to make weight in his last clash with Robson Conceicao, precipitating a move up to lightweight.

Speaking to the DAZN Boxing Show, he ran through a list of potential opponents but when asked if Taylor was up for fight at 140, would he take the match-up, he backed himself.

“Yeah I’ll fight him, just ‘cos I feel like I can beat him,” he began.

But he cautioned: “I [don’t] want to jump up there for no reason, but at the end of the day I’m still not fully grown yet at that weight.

“I’m human, just jumping up to 140 right now, it’s not my weight class, I was just at 130, I’m at 135.

“That’s the right way to move.”
