3 fights that could be next for Dalton Smith

Dalton Smith stopped Jose Zepeda.

Dalton Smith scored the most impressive win of his career on March 23 when he stopped Jose Zepeda in impressive fashion.

The American was intended to test Smith and it certainly looked that way in the fight’s early going as he landed on the Sheffield man on several occasions.

A stunning body shot from Smith in the fifth session was enough to end the bout and now Smith can look forward.

Here, DAZN looks at what could be next for the rising super-lightweight.

Adam Azim

The British grudge fight that has a lot of boxing fans excited will see Smith go at it with Adam Azim.

The pair have been ordered to fight by the EBU but securing a deal could be problematic with the fighters representing different promoters and networks.

Both men are on an upwards trajectory and the fight might be bigger a year or two down the line, but if a bout could be made now, the victor would be a genuine star in his homeland.

Sandor Martin

The path to the top of the 140lb division essentially runs through Sandor Martin as the Spaniard stands just outside the world class category.

A win over Mikey Garcia in 2021 shocked the world and he was unfortunate not to get past Teofimo Lopez the following year.

Martin will likely hold world title aspirations himself and if he can secure a bout with Smith in some sort of eliminator then the winner will fully deserve their world title shot.

Regis Prograis

It might be a big jump and an immediate step to the highest level, but could Smith be getting Regis Prograis at the right time?

The American was outclassed by Devin Haney last year and it might've taken more out of him then he’d like to admit.

Could Smith take advantage of that and fully announce himself on the world scene?
