Adrien Broner retains his speed and punching power, according to his trainer Gerald Tucker.
Broner has been linked with British welterweight Conor Benn as he looks to feel his way back into action in 2022, in anticipation of rediscovering his best form.
However the 32-year-old four-division champion has fought three times in the last four years, only some of which can be blamed on coronavirus disruption given his brushes with the law.
He fought last a year ago in February 2021, when he beat Jovanie Santiago in a bout that a younger Broner would have dealt with far more easily.
Tucker is plotting a few tune-up fights for Broner before he challenges for a world title again.
“Maybe two or three fights, gradually increasing the competition-level fight by fight,” he said to The Sun.
“But once he’s on track, he knows and his trainers know if he’s doing everything in his power to be the best him, he’ll be more than ready for whoever.
“He’s up there, he still has a crazy ring IQ, crazy speed, he hits heavier than some super-middleweights.
“He just needs to do a couple of things to put it all together and bring it out.
“All I can do is help him realise there’s a switch he needs to get in his head for him to be able to activate the best version of himself.”
Tucker explained that he would not rush back his fighter, and accused others of using his name for their own ends.
He said: “People that call him out right now, to me that’s weak.
"That’s weak of them to want to fight someone that’s kind of down and beating themselves.
“That’s weak, so me, myself, I wouldn’t even respond or reply to those guys. Adrien needs a couple fights, getting back."
