Amanda Serrano told the DAZN Boxing Show that Jake Paul stopped her from retiring from the sport.
Serrano fought Katie Taylor last year at Madison Square Gardens in part due to work done by Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions.
Paul has been outspoken in his desire to see fighters well remunerated, with professional fighters often crediting the crossover fighter for his ability to sell events, even if they are sceptical of his abilities in the ring.
Serrano is set to fight Heather Hardy in her next bout, in August, with five world featherweight belts on the line, and is still expected to set up a rematch with Taylor at some point in the future.
However, none of that may have had a chance were it not for Paul’s intervention.
Asked if she had considered retirement, she said: “Oh yeah, every other day, there was no light at the end of the tunnel in this sport.“Now we’re finally seeing the fruits of our labour. We’re working hard, money is so much better, I’m getting paid a lot. I’m getting paid very good for now and I’m just good that Jake came into my career two years ago, because I was honestly going to retire.”
