Football plays a major part in the life of any Liverpudlian and for boxer Anthony Fowler it's no different.

As well as being a massive a Liverpool fan, the super-welterweight also has a cousin who wore the iconic red shirt, striker Robbie Fowler.

Speaking to DAZN, Fowler revealed his cousin Robbie's strict training regime off the pitch influenced him when preparing for fights.

"To be the best you need to work the hardest" was a quote which Fowler took into the gym and the ring.

It wasn't just the famous Liverpool striker who had a positive effect on Fowler, but also family, in particular his uncle whose name has a place on his shorts.

"His influence helped me a better fighter," Fowler said when discussing his uncle and how he developed him as a boxer.

For any Liverpool fighter where football runs through their veins, boxing at one of the city's two major stadiums is a lifelong dream and for Fowler it's staging a fight at Anfield, the home of his beloved Liverpool.

"Boxing at Anfield is the dream," Fowler when discussing the idea of boxing at the home of the Reds.

"I’m sure the whole city will be there to support me."

Anthony Fowler returns to the ring this Saturday where he takes on fellow Scouser Liam Smith in a huge Liverpool Derby at the M&S Bank Arena. You can watch the card live on DAZN worldwide except Australia and New Zealand, and you can also get ready for the big fight night between now and Saturday by watching a host of original preview content including this very interview on DAZN.
