Anthony Joshua didn't get the result he desired on Saturday as he lost for the second time to Oleksandr Usyk in his quest to regain three heavyweight titles.
In his post-fight interview, Joshua gave a passionate speech about the fight and was emotional during his post-fight press conference. Earlier Sunday, Joshua released a statement on social media praising Usyk for his performance and what he was feeling inside in the aftermath.
"I wish @usykaa continued success in your quest for greatness," Joshua said. "You are a class act champ.
"Yesterday I had to mentally take myself into a dark place to compete for the championship belts! I had two fights, one with Usyk and one with my emotions, and both got the better of me.
"I’ll be the first to admit, I let my self down. I acted out of pure passion and emotion and when not controlled it ain’t great.
"I love this sport so so much and I’ll be better from this point on.
"Respect.
When Joshua will return to action and against who is currently unknown. The former two-time unified heavyweight champion wanted to return in November, but his promoter at Matchroom Boxing, Eddie Hearn, wants him to wait until December.
