Finland's Robert Helenius has moved into the mandatory position for the WBA world heavyweight title.

The WBA is set to name Finnish boxer Robert Helenius as the mandatory challenger to its world heavyweight title after Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk's much anticipated rematch.

Once the two meet in the early part of 2022, the victor will have to fulfill a number of mandatory title defences.

"Right now we are focused on the WBA mandatory position," Helenius' manager Markus Sundman told Sky Sports

"Robert fought a WBA elimination bout in March 2020 against Adam Kownacki, and he placed a stamp on that victory in the rematch on October 9."

"Usyk should really be Robert's next bout. There is no more deserving challenger in the WBA. Charr, Bryan, Dubois, are they more deserving? I think not."

If the winner of Joshua vs. Usyk 2 is ordered to face Helenius, it would be another bump in the road towards an undisputed world heavyweight title showdown with WBC champion Tyson Fury.
