Anthony Joshua has explained what was behind his furious outburst after losing to unified world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk last year.
Joshua and Usyk first met in September 2021 in a fight which saw Usyk claim the IBF, WBA and WBO world heavyweight titles on the judges' scorecards.
The pair would then meet in a rematch 11 months later in Saudi Arabia and while Joshua showed vast improvement, he was still unable to topple Usyk who retained his three world titles with a split decision win.
What followed was something not many expected.
In the heat of the moment, Joshua threw Usyk's belts out of the ring and addressed the crowd before breaking down into tears at the post-fight press conference.
Speaking in a BBC interview with Louis Theroux, Joshua explained what led to his actions on that night in Saudi and he did admit that he could have handled the second loss to Usyk in a better way.
"That was an ego and pride thing coming out. I brought this heavyweight division back - that was in me. Right or wrong, probably wrong," Joshua said.
"So I threw [the belts] because that's what I felt like. I grabbed the mic, I addressed the crowd. Could I have done it better? Of course I could have.
"I had finished a 12-round fight. I felt frustrated and annoyed. I knew I was out of the title race.
"The questions started. 'What is he like, where's his head at?' All this 'can he be three-time champion of the world?'
"People create this narrative and put pressure on me. It's too much. Gone are the days where it was for the fun. When you're just doing it for the passion, you're a prospect."
Joshua has since returned to winning ways in 2023 with back-to-back successes over Jermaine Franklin and Robert Helenius.
