Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois: Promoter suggests all-British fight for pair

Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois: Promoter suggests all-British fight for pairMark Robinson/Matchroom Boxing
The two impressed in their respective outings last week.

Promoter Frank Warren suggested that Daniel Dubois would be the right opponent for Anthony Joshua.

Joshua and Dubois both fought last Saturday at the "Day of Reckoning" in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Dubois impressed with a late, late stoppage win against Jarrell Miller on the undercard, bouncing back from his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in August.

Joshua also put on a fearsome display as he battered Otto Wallin into a retirement.

Before Joshua got into the ring, he knew that his proposed 2024 opponent, Deontay Wilder, had fallen well short in his own clash, against Joseph Parker, throwing AJ’s plans into disarray.

His promoter, Eddie Hearn, suggested that Filip Hrgovic could be next, and of course there is the suggestion of a rematch with Parker, or the chance to wait for one of Tyson Fury or Usyk after their undisputed fight on February 17.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Warren thought that Dubois and Joshua is also another good fight to make.

“For me, [Dubois] could fight any of those guys in the top 10. Even AJ would be a good fight. I’d watch that all day long,” he said.

“I thought Daniel Dubois was brilliant.

“Absolutely magnificent. He proved to all his doubters that he does have heart in a tough, tough fight against a guy who is very good with his gamesmanship, was a tough, tough competitor and made him fight all the way.

“That fight with Usyk, he gave Usyk his toughest fight. He hurt him to the body, and, for me, that was a legitimate punch, and the referee giving him more than four minutes to recover was ridiculous.

“That fight is gone, and he got a lot of stick afterwards about his desire, and whether he really wants to be at the top level.

“Well, he showed that he does because that was a tough fight. He had to dig deep. He had to grit his teeth, and he did all those things.”
