The light heavyweight believes the undisputed 168lb champion can move up the divisions.

Anthony Yarde believes that Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez can make a success of his move up to cruiserweight.

Canelo had been expected to move into Yarde’s division, light heavyweight, but he instead has leapt up two classes from super middleweight, where he is the undisputed champion.

Speaking on the DAZN Boxing Show, he was asked about the 31-year-old Mexican’s plans to fight WBC cruiserweight champion Ilunga Makabu next May. Yarde said he can see Canelo winning that clash.

“It's possible. It's possible,” he began. “He's big in stature, but he's not very tall and rangy. I feel like the thing that will bother Canelo will be someone that can move. That's taller, maybe that can hit. If there was a cruiserweight [that] could move on their feet, and maybe land a couple shots. I think [that] could be a lot more tricky for him.

“But again, Canelo, you can't follow him because he's so experienced, cutting off the ring. He's fought two big guys before, he's gonna go from strength to strength.”
