Canelo Alvarez or Dmitry Bivol rematch? Five fights that could come next for Artur Beterbiev

Canelo Alvarez or Dmitry Bivol rematch? Five fights that could come next for Artur BeterbievMark Robinson/Matchroom Boxing
Beterbiev is the undisputed light-heavyweight champion after victory on Saturday.

Artur Beterbiev is the undisputed light-heavyweight champion following a hard-fought win against Dmitry Bivol at Riyadh Season's IV Crown Showdown.

The WBC, IBF, and WBO title holder claimed a majority points win over his biggest rival to add the WBA (Super) belt to his collection.

The ruler at 175lbs now has plenty of options in front of him, ranging from a possible rematch with his foe to a dream clash with Canelo Alvarez.

But just what fight will he head into next? Here, DAZN looks at a few options.

Dmitry Bivol

There was no doubt Saturday's brilliant contest delivered, but has the close result made a rematch between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol an essential bout for 2025?

Both men will feel they did enough to claim victory, but with an outcome that has split the entire boxing community, maybe a second clash be more definitive.

Boxing fans would certainly lap it up and with all four world titles potentially still on the line too, Bivol would have another chance to become undisputed champion.

Canelo Alvarez

Is the modern-day Mexican legend willing to make the jump to 175lbs against Beterbiev following another good run in the super-middleweight division?

His last leap of faith saw him come unstuck against Bivol, but with a lack of suitable challengers at 168lbs, Canelo might well seek Beterbiev as the next natural foe.

Both are currently undisputed rulers, and the bout would do big business, but the former's memories of his last run in this weight class may impact his decision too.

Jai Opetaia

Could Beterbiev make the jump to cruiserweight after taking care of business in his current weight class? If so, there is one man who would surely have a strong claim.

Australian Opetaia has been a dominant force in recent fights, and added to his impressive ledger on the same Riyadh Season bill by stopping Jack Massey.

Beterbiev would be giving up size for the first time in his professional career, but the chance to become a two-weight world champion may appeal to him now.

David Benavidez

A new face at light-heavyweight is David Benavidez and after enjoying success in the division south, could he emulate that against Beterbiev?

The Arizona man has long pursued a contest with Canelo Alvarez, but a win over Beterbiev would elevate him higher.

Joshua Buatsi

Joshua Buatsi’s professional run has been largely quiet so far, but the British fighter is moving up the rankings.

After making sure domestic business is taken care of in fights against Anthony Yarde and Callum Smith, Buatsi will want to make his mark at world level.

That could mean a fight against Beterbiev, but the question is whether he could prosper where  his prior rivals failed in bouts with the undisputed champion.
