Light-heavyweight glory is on the line this weekend.

Callum Smith has a huge opportunity to shock the world this weekend and Tony Sims is backing the Liverpool man to do so.

Smith travels to Canada and waiting for him will be the undefeated Artur Beterbiev and the unified light-heavyweight crown.

Smith enters the bout a significant underdog, but he has his backers in the boxing industry as he looks to become the first person to be beat Beterbiev.

The reigning champion at 175lbs, Beterbiev’s rise to the top of his division has been an impressive one that has saw him stop all of his opponents so far.

Smith will be one of the 38-year old’s toughest assignments to date, and Sims, a trainer who fell short against Smith with John Ryder in 2019, believes that the former 168lbs world champion can get the job done.

“I think Callum Smith’s in with a great chance of beating him,” said Sims when speaking with ProBox TV

“We saw Beterbiev against Yarde, and Beterbiev definitely wasn’t the force that we were all thinking that he was going to be, and Callum Smith’s a quality fighter, he’s a world level fighter.

“He can punch with both hands, he’s obviously big at the weight, so I think he’s got a great chance of winning. I actually favour him to win, to be honest.”
