Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol 'needs to happen' instead of fight with Anthony YardeDAZN

Artur Beterbiev produced his 19th consecutive knockout win this past Saturday when he beat Joe Smith Jr. to become the WBC, WBO and IBF light heavyweight champion.

However, it is likely Beterbiev will face Britain's Anthony Yarde later this year instead of WBA champion Dmitry Bivol for the undisputed championship.

For many fans, including The DAZN Boxing Show's Barak Bess, the undisputed 175lb title fight is one that needs to happen.

"It’s the only fight that makes sense," Barak stated on The DAZN Boxing Show

"Bivol said that him beating Canelo doesn’t do anything for his status in the light heavyweight division because he beat a small guy.

"He said he’s not going to consider himself great or higher on a pound-for-pound list until he beats Beterbiev and gets the other belts."

The opportunity to have an undisputed light heavyweight champion have been few and far between, and even when a fight for that particular title seems close, it inevitably failed to materialise.

"Have we seen that happen in the light heavyweight division before where the guys don’t meet with all the belts? Yeah, Kovalev and Stevenson, and that was a horrible time period where these guys didn’t fight each other," Barak continued.

"I don’t think Beterbiev or Bivol are going to let this past, streets or not. I think this is a fight that needs to happen, I think it should happen.

"You want to see what happens when a pressure fighter gets pressured.

"I think Bivol has the power to hurt anybody, but is he going to use that against Beterbiev, probably not. He’s going to use his distance the same way he did against Canelo and strike when he can."
