Barry McGuigan believes Joseph Parker has a great chance of beating Joseph Parker when the heavyweights collide on December 23 in Saudi Arabia.
Wilder will be having his first fight in over 14 months when he faces the former WBO champion and McGuigan is expecting Parker to give the American a stern test.
Parker last competed at the end of October when he scored a stoppage win over Canada’s Simon Kean, but he’ll be facing an altogether different task next month when he faces the powerful Wilder.
Victory for Parker would be seen as a big upset, but it could open the door for a lucrative fight in 2024, and McGuigan has provided Parker with plenty of credit as he gets ready for his big fight.
“I think this is a really tough fight for him. Joseph Parker’s a very good fighter, got a good chin,” said the former world champion when speaking to ProBoxingFans.
“Andy Lee’s a very good coach, clever tactically. So, this is a much tougher fight than I think Wilder imagines it is, but he’s got that equaliser, and you can never write him off.
“He can knock you out in the first round and the twelfth round, and that’s the most exciting thing about him. This is not an easy fight. Parker’s got a great chance.”
