Ben Whittaker's fight ends in chaos, suffers injury after falling out of the ring

The British star was being tested in Riyadh.

Ben Whittaker suffered a shock injury during his light heavyweight contest with Liam Cameron in Riyadh on the undercard of Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol.

Whittaker was looking to make a statement against his domestic rival, and in the opening rounds, looked comfortable. His slick movement and sharp punches were causing problems for Cameron.

Come the fourth, Cameron had worked himself back into the fight, with Whittaker lacking the impressive movement that gave him control in the opening exchanges.

However, this fight will be overshadowed by what happened at the end of the fifth. As round five ticked towards the closing bell, Whittaker and Cameron engaged in a clinch, but suddenly, the pair went over the top rope and were sprawled on the edge of the ring apron.

It was no surprise that there was a delay to the start of the sixth round as Whittaker needed time to recover, and then when being checked by the ringside doctors, an injury had been picked up on the Wolverhampton fighter's right foot.

As a result, the fight was brought to an end with the result being determined by the judges' scorecards.

Despite Whittaker and Cameron both being awarded a 58-57 score, the third judge could not separate the two and scored the fight 58-58.

It is currently unknown as to how long Whittaker will be absent from the ring, but it will likely be a prolonged recovery for "The Surgeon" who left the Kingdom Arena in a wheelchair and then by ambulance as reported by DAZN's Chris Mannix.
