Bob Arum: I believe Jared Anderson will replace Tyson Fury as heavyweight champion

The Top Rank promoter believes he has found the next big thing in heavyweight boxing

Bob Arum believes that Deontay Wilder can still beat ‘pretty much anybody’ but will be usurped by young contender Jared Anderson.

Wilder lost the WBC heavyweight championship to Tyson Fury at the start of 2020 but pushed Fury all the way in another defeat in 2021.

His punching power was enough to send Fury to the canvas in October and Arum believes that his strength makes him a dangerous opponent for anyone.

"Wilder is a terrific talent. He hits like a mule, as Tyson would attest to,” Arum said to Sky Sports .

"Pretty much anybody in the heavyweight division would lose to Wilder. He should process.

"The one guy who will be equipped to beat him, by the end of this year, is Anderson.

"I would be prepared to discuss a potential Wilder vs Anderson fight by the end of this year.

"We are grooming him to be the next heavyweight champion after Fury."

At 22, Anderson has a way to go but Arum expects him to become champion after Fury.

"Yes, that's what I really believe he will be," Arum said.

"When Fury hangs up the gloves, Jared will be in pole position to become the next great heavyweight.

"Mike Tyson was a tremendous puncher who didn't show much boxing ability.

"Jared has shown boxing ability and power. He reminds me more of a young Muhammad Ali than a young Mike Tyson."
