Is Tyson Fury set to defend his WBC heavyweight title against Andy Ruiz? Bob Arum, the American promoter of Fury, certainly thinks so.
Fury is on the hunt for an opponent after his undisputed clash with Oleksandr Usyk, originally wanted for April 29th, failed to materialise following weeks of talks between both teams.
The failure to secure the bout has left both men looking in different directions with Usyk now likely to face Daniel Dubois at some point in 2023.
Fury has multiple options with Joe Joyce and Francis Ngannou linked to fights with the unbeaten Brit.
A decision on his opponent should come soon and Arum believes that Ruiz, a former world champion, could be the man to get the call.
“He’s [Fury] been in Italy on vacation with his family,” said Arum when discussing Fury with Cornerman Boxing.
“He’s back in England, and we’re talking to him, and we’re looking for the best available guy for him to fight this summer in the UK. Maybe it’ll be Andy Ruiz [who faces Fury] or somebody like that.”
