Boxer dreaming of becoming world champion after only having one fight

One fighter is aiming high.

Eilish Tierney made a winning start to her professional career when she won on her debut this past weekend.

A close friend of Fabio Wardley, Tierney only turned to boxing to lose weight, but now she has her sights set on the biggest prizes available within the sport after getting past Sheree Barnes.

Despite her inexperience, Tierney has prepared properly and has had the pleasure of sparring with Ebanie Bridges and Nina Hughes before her maiden bout.

The 25-year-old super-featherweight often jokes with Wardley that she’ll become world champion before him, but she’s very serious on reaching the top of the sport.

"I 100% know I'll be world champion in a few years, and I know this is what I will do until I can't do it anymore," said Tierney when speaking to BBC Sport

"I have the skillset and the abilities behind me, and I 100% will be a world champion in the next few years, way before Fabio Wardley.

"I want to get out [and fight again] as soon as possible. I want to get as many fights under my belt as I can. I want to get my name out there and really make a statement."
