It may not be top of the bill, but Saturday's Cameron Vuong vs. Gavin Gwynne bout features a pair of fighters each looking to prove themselves.
The lightweight fight is part of the Sunny Edwards vs. Galal Yafai card, which can be seen live on DAZN, and it looks to be a classic match-up of youth vs. experience.
Voung (6-0) is a 22-year-old up-and-comer who has done nothing but win since making his professional debut just over a year ago. He faces 34-year-old Gwynne (17-3-1), who was last seen losing to Mark Chamberlain by TKO in March.
Given each man's respective position in the boxing world, both will be looking at Saturday's fight as a must-win — albeit for very different reasons.
And both are looking to put on a show for the Birmingham crowd.
"I've got a lot of respect for Gavin, he's a tough, tough man and he's done great things in the sport," Vuong said at Thursday's pre-fight press conference. "Commonwealth, British, European champion, you don't get that for no reason, so I'm looking forward to it, it's my toughest test to date, but I'm looking to put on a masterclass."
Gwynne's outlook is slightly different, even if his end goal is the same as his younger opponent.
"He's a good prospect, but obviously I've got all the experience behind me," Gwynne said. "He's probably thinking that my best days are behind me and I know a lot of people are as well, but come Saturday night I'm going to throw it back and put on a big performance— a statement performance — and chuck me right back in the mix."
