Canelo Alvarez is making no plans for retirement almost two decades into his professional career.
The 33-year-old Mexican fought 18 years ago in his debut, defeating Abraham Gonzalez in October 2005 by technical knockout.
Since then he has achieved sporting greatness by becoming the super middleweight undisputed champion, and winning belts at light middleweight, middleweight and light heavyweight over the years.
He is now preparing to fight Jermell Charlo to defend his status at 168lbs, and there has been some suggestion that after he defeated Gennadiy Golovkin and then John Ryder, after a defeat to Dmitry Bivol, that he is not quite at his previous best.
However, these current agreement includes two more fights with PBC, and BoxingScene.com reported that he is not yet considering retirement.
“I still feel young, fresh, and I never think about the end of my career,” Alvarez said.
“I just train and fight every year and we’ll see.
“We’ll see in the future, but [I’m] still young. I feel great, I feel strong, and I feel [I’m at] my best.”
