Despite Canelo Alvarez preparing to fight Edgar Berlanga on September 14, live on DAZN, he continues to field questions about a potential bout with Terence Crawford.
But while handling duties for the Canelo-Berlanga Los Angeles press conference Tuesday, Alvarez not only suggested another boxer for being a better fit to take on Crawford, but also gave an update for a possible mega bout with "Bud."
"Crawford needs to fight Teofimo [Lopez] first and then we'll see," Alvarez said with Lopez by his side, as reported by Fight Hub TV.
"At the end of the day, like I said before, I'm not asking for that fight. If they want to make that fight because it's a payday obviously, I don't want that fight. Teofimo deserves it more than me."
Alvarez then proceeded to give an update about that possible mega fight with Crawford, saying he received a text message Monday from Turki Alashikh's team to make the bout happen in February.
His response was that he's 100 percent focused on the Berlanga fight, while also adding: "I don't like the way [Alashikh] talks. If he wants to work with me, it's in my way, not in their way. I don't need it."
To that assertion, Alashikh fired back via his social media.
If Lopez clashing with Crawford is a possibility, Lopez, the current WBO super lightweight world champion, would be willing to move up to 154 pounds to test the consensus pound-for-pound best.
