Canelo Alvarez's trainer provides major update on potential Chris Eubank Jr fight

Canelo Alvarez's trainer provides major update on potential Chris Eubank Jr fightRey Del Rio / Premier Boxing Champions
Who will Canelo fight next?

Canelo Alvarez’s speculated showdown with Chris Eubank Jr is not going to take place according to Canelo’s trainer.

The super-middleweight world champion had been linked to a huge showdown with the British star with the contest rumoured to be taking place in Britain with Wembley Stadium the potential host.

Those stories have now been rubbished by Eddy Reynoso who claims that his fighter will be heading in a different direction away from Eubank Jr.

The rivals did discuss a possible meeting earlier this year but talks went nowhere and it left both fighters choosing different opponents.

In September, Canelo made another successful defence of his world titles when he dropped Edgar Berlanga befofe outpointing the tough Puerto Rican.

Eubank Jr was in action the following month as he headed to Saudi Arabia, where he registered a stoppage against Kamil Szeremeta.

In the immediate aftermath of his most recent win, Eubank Jr was greeted by Conor Benn, who is still eager to take on his rival.

It was expected that Eubank Jr would begin 2025 by fighting either Benn or Canelo, but Reynoso has now stated that one of those options is no longer on the table,

“It’s totally false. Eubank had his chance to fight Canelo in September, and the only thing he did was complicate the negotiations,” said Reynoso when speaking to Fight Freaks Unite .

“We will not touch base with him again for a future fight! Whatever I tell you is always true. I don’t like making statements, but what I declare is true."
