Canelo Alvarez returns to action on May 4 when he faces Jaime Munguia but talk of a future fight with David Benavidez refuses to go away.
Canelo will defend his status as the world’s best super-middleweight against his fellow Mexican, and if he’s victorious, he will head straight into a fight against the Arizona man.
In recent interviews, Canelo has demanded a high purse for a showdown with Benavidez, and although both men currently operate at 168lbs, options at light-heavyweight also exist.
Paulie Malignaggi, a former two weight world champion, is the latest figure from the sport to have his say on the potential fight.
“It’s not that important for me to watch Canelo get beaten like a rag doll. I think he gets hammered,” said Malignaggi when speaking on ProBox TV.
“I don’t think [Canelo’s] going to fight [Benavidez]. That’s an outright duck. [Benavidez] runs him over like a train.”
