A look at the Canelo Alvarez-Jermell Charlo faceoffs during their two press conferences and one can see that Charlo is the bigger man, despite moving up two weight classes to challenge for Alvarez's undisputed super middleweight world championship September 30 in Las Vegas.
Despite that fact that Charlo stands 5'11" to Alvarez's 5'8", Oscar De La Hoya is giving Canelo the edge in the fight and he's pointing to the Mexican's comfortability at 168 pounds as one of the reasons why.
"I strongly feel Canelo is going to beat Charlo," De La Hoya told FightHype.com.
"They're both talented but [Alvarez's] the bigger fighter. And in boxing — in the history of the sport — the talented fighter, who's the bigger fighter, always beats the talented small fighter. Historically, that's what's taken place in boxing.
"And people will say 'Oh, well didn't [Manny] Pacquiao beat you?' Well, I was already a dead man walking when I stepped up into the ring, so that doesn't really count."
To the latter point, De La Hoya is referring to Pacquiao moving up two divisions — from lightweight to welterweight — to dominate and stop the "Goldeny Boy" in December 2008.
Although De La Hoya sees Charlo delivering a great performance, he just doesn't think it will be enough to upset Alvarez.
"I think Charlo is going to have a great fight, I think Charlo is going to have a great performance, but I just think the weight," De La Hoya continued.
"Jumping up two weight classes ... it's a lot. When you're facing Canelo and he keeps on pressuring you, I think he might even stop him in the later rounds."
