Will we see the pair go at it?

Bob Santos believes that Terence Crawford jumping to super middleweight is too much of a big leap for the Nebraska star.

Crawford landed at super welterweight earlier this month when narrowly outpointing Israil Madrimov to become WBA champion.

The closeness of the contest has created some doubt whether Crawford could carry his qualities to 168lbs where a fight against Canelo Alvarez could generate big business.

Santos, The Ring magazine trainer of the year in 2022, has had his say on what Crawford should do.

“I think it’ll be a step too big for him, but he has earned the right to try it,” said Santos when speaking to BoxingScene.

“Well, I think that’s true, but we have to remember that what makes a guy like Crawford great is challenges. That’s why he’s great. That’s why he’s done what he’s done.

“Now, that said, I think Canelo would be too big and too strong for him at 168. I could be wrong. He could prove us wrong. But for the most part, I think that’s just a lot to ask of Bud to go to 168.”
