Sergio Mora believes that Dmitry Bivol is a tough opponent for Canelo Alvarez as they prepare for their Cinco de Mayo fight.
The Russian’s WBA light heavyweight title is on the line when the Mexican returns to 175lbs for his second fight in the division, after defeating Sergey Kovalev in 2019.
The former world champion thinks that Bivol has some of the qualities that allowed Kovalev to trouble Canelo in their fight.
“Bivol is going to be a mix of Sergey Kovalev and Daniel Jacobs, both who gave Canelo his issues,” Mora said on JABS as part of the DAZN Boxing Show .
”Jacobs with his athleticism, [and] ring generalship. With Kovalev it was that long jab, that size advantage. A mix between Jacobs and Bivol, I think this will be a tough one.”
Bivol has plenty of experience in the division and is undefeated, and Mora thinks that prepares him well for the match-up with Canelo, saying: “Whenever you feel the cinder-block fists of Joe Smith Jr., when you fight a guy like Canelo, who punches hard, you’re going to take that power.
“The power won’t be the issue, the pressure won’t be the issue, It's going to be an explosive fight, and I think Bivol will have to fight out of character. Bivol will have to show out to win.”
