'Canelo is just a man, a boxer. He's nothing else' - Sergey Kovalev's advice to Dmitry Bivol ahead of May 7DAZN
The former world champion spoke with Dmitry Bivol ahead of his fight with Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.

In just under two months time, Dmitry Bivol will step into the ring with Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez for the WBA world light heavyweight title.

For Bivol, this is the biggest fight of his career and he is leaving no stones unturned when it comes to preparation.

Speaking in an interview during the DAZN's broadcast of Saturday night's fight in California, where Alexis Rocha knocked out Blair Cobbs in the main event, the Russian revealed that he recently spoke with his compatriot Sergey Kovalev, who lost to Canelo in 2019.

"He told me not to overtrain, not to spend so much time in the gym. (Canelo) He's just a man, a boxer. He's nothing more. He told me to think of him as just another opponent. Nothing more," Bivol said during the broadcast.

The 31-year-old Russian then went onto discuss his training camp ahead of this career defining fight against Canelo.

"Everything is fine, I have good sparring partners, a good gym and everything is going well," Bivol told DAZN.

"I'm a different fighter, I'm a semi-complete and I have good power, speed. All of us fighters are different. That means every fight will be different."

"To be honest (to beat Canelo) I just have to do my job, do what I do best. Good jab, good movement and sometimes more pressure, sometimes back off. Everything I know how to do. If I do it well, I'll win, I think so."
