A huge featherweight fight takes place this weekend.

Carl Frampton is backing Leigh Wood to retain his world featherweight title when he clashes with Josh Warrington on Saturday night.

The domestic rivals meet in a huge encounter with Warrington looking to become world champion for a third time with victory over the exciting Nottingham fighter.

Frampton, a former ruler at featherweight, knows what it takes to share the ring with Warrington after losing to the Leeds man at the end of 2018.

Now retired and one of the sport’s most respected voices, Frampton has had his say on this weekend’s battle and he’s giving the edge to Wood.

“I don’t think there is a massive favourite, but I think Wood’s freshness is enough to get him a win,” said Frampton when speaking Metro.co.uk

“I really respect Josh and his dad [Warrington’s trainer, Sean O’Hagan] but Josh looks to be at the stage of his career that I was when I going in to fight him going in towards the back end.

“I am not saying I was finished, or he is finished, but maybe slightly past our best. I just fancy Leigh for those reasons.”
