Carl Froch received many plauidts in his illustrious career for taking on all challenges, but one prominent figure in the sport has his doubts.
Frank Warren, the Hall of Fame promoter, has worked with many leading names in British boxing but he never had the opportunity to promote a fight night headlined by Froch.
With Warren the man who guided the bulk of Joe Calzaghe’s career, there was a time when it appeared the pair could fight.
Calzaghe was the unified world champion at 168lbs in 2007 and Froch was climbing the rankings, but despite some verbal exchanges, Warren believes that Froch never fancied the bout.
“Carl, I’m going to remind you now,” said Warren when speaking to IFLTV.
“You met me in the Polo lounge of the Westbury Hotel and brought down your financial advisor and we were trying to make the Joe Calzaghe fight. The fight everybody wanted to see, apart from you.
“All you kept talking about was, “Is he going to go up in weight? When’s he going up in weight?” Because you didn’t want to fight him, Carl.”
