Charles Martin is out for revenge against Anthony Joshua after the British heavyweight stopped him in 2016 to claim the IBF world heavyweight title, but first he must get past former world title challenger Luis Ortiz on New Year's Day.
"Charles desperately wants to fight and KO Joshua before he retires. He's been focused on that singular goal since 2016 - it's what motivates him and it's the reason why he will beat Luiz Ortiz," Mike Borao, Martin's manager, told Sky Sports.
"Charles will do whatever it takes to become two-time heavyweight champion, including fighting a second IBF eliminator against one of the most avoided heavyweights in the world."
Following his knockout win against Gerald Washington in February, Borao has been trying to secure a 'big' fight with the likes of Dillian Whyte and former unified champion Andy Ruiz Jr. However, while he hasn't been able to seal a deal with either of the two previous names, Borao believes a strong performance against Ortiz will showcase Martin's desire to become a two-time world champion.
"I tried very hard to make a fight against Andy, but he refused," Borao explained.
"We also tried to make the fight against Dillian with no success - and thank goodness, given his most recent withdrawal [from the Otto Wallin fight due to injury].
"Once Charles gets past Ortiz, people will realise his dedication and desire to reclaim his title.
"Charles turned pro with me 10 years ago, and I have never seen him more focused than he is right now."
