Chris Eubank Jr. has expressed his surprise that coach Roy Jones Jr. and Mike Tyson are getting back in the ring.

Chris Eubank Jr. has backed his coach Roy Jones Jr. as he prepares for a fight with Mike Tyson.

The 31-year-old WBA interim middleweight champion trained with Jones in America throughout the coronavirus lockdown, during which Jones Jr. agreed to fight former world heavyweight champion, Tyson.

Jones has a gym in Florida that Eubank relocated to after the closure of public gyms in America and across the world.

At 51 and 54 respectively, Jones and Tyson are facing one another in an exhibition bout, and Eubank Jr. said he initially could not believe the pair were going ahead with a fight.

"I thought there's no way Mike Tyson is getting back in the ring," admitted Eubank to the BBC.

"Once I realized it was going to happen it became a lot more serious. So let's help coach get ready for war."

With a fight planned for the end of November, Eubank expressed his admiration for his return to the physical demands of boxing.

"For a guy who has been inactive for the last 15 years and having lived the life he lived - smoking, drinking, partying and abusing his body - to come back is a hell of a thing," he said. "They are doing it for whatever reason they are doing it for, whether it's pride, money or the dream of being back in the ring. It's an amazing thing for boxing fans to see. I just hope they can prepare effectively enough so they are not in serious danger when they get in the ring."

Eubank has suggested that his next fight could be against WBC champion Jermall Charlo.
