Claressa Shields was surprised that she was able to secure a knockout victory as quickly as she did on Saturday night.
The self-styled ‘GWOAT’ took the WBC heavyweight title off Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse as she fought in her home city of Detroit.
Shields now has both the WBC heavyweight and WBO light heavyweight (both at 175lbs in women’s boxing) after the victory.
Shields is a multi-division champion and is also operating in the PFL MMA franchise, and taking a step up in weight was a new challenge for the unbeaten American.
Speaking after the win, Shields was surprised with the second round stoppage.
“I shocked myself, I'm not gonna lie,” she said. “I went in there real slow in the first round because I'm no dummy.
“I knew I was strong in camp, but I was super-strong tonight..
“Maybe I'll stay at heavyweight.”
