Eddie Hearn predicted that Conor Benn will be a world champion at welterweight after his impressive victory over Chris Algieri.
Benn stopped the 37-year-old former world champion in the fourth with a huge right hander, and after the fight his promoter suggested that a fight could be made with American star Adrien Broner.
“Broner’s a huge fight,” he said on DAZN. “But it wasn't just the win tonight, it was the performance. It was the defence, it was the movement, it was the feint, the way he set the right hand up.”
With talent such as Errol Spence Jr., Yordenis Ugas and Terence Crawford in the welterweight division, Hearn said it would not be easy to guide the 25-year-old Briton to a title, but nonetheless believes it will happen.
“The job is to position him for a world title fight in the most difficult and dangerous division in boxing - at 147lb there is no easy belt, there is no easy fight at the top - preparing him to swim with the sharks,” he explained.
“He went on and knocked [Algieri] clean out. He is a real, well rounded fighter and he is a star. He is going to box all over the country, all over the world.
“He is living in the shadows of a legend [father Nigel Benn, a former world champion] but he’s going to be a legend in his own right. He’s going to be a welterweight champion.”
