Conor McGregor names the boxing world champion who rejected a two-fight crossover deal

A pound-for-pound star was offered the chance to step into the cage.

UFC star Conor McGregor is attempting to bring some of boxing's biggest names to the cage, but he has been unsuccessful in securing a deal with a pound-for-pound star.

Appearing on a livestream for Duelbits, McGregor spoke about his attempt to bring four-weight world champion Terence Crawford to the cage in a two-fight deal, but this was rejected.

After becoming the undisputed champion at welterweight last year, Crawford won a world title in a fourth weight class last month when he beat Israil Madrimov to become the WBA light middleweight champion.

With Crawford currently one of the hottest names in combat sports, there is no surprise that he has been linked with a possible move to mixed martial arts, however, McGregor revealed that the 37-year-old has no interest in swapping the ring for the cage.

"Crawford is very slick, he also has a wrestling background pedigree," McGregor said.

"You know they’re always talking to me about bouts.

"I’ve already boxed a boxer, and the best boxer in MMA is me. You know what I mean? I generate the most [power].

"We were talking back and forth about a two-fight deal. He rings up Crawford in front of me the day after the fights.

“I get on the phone and say ‘Crawford, they’re here talking about you and me [fighting]. Two-fight deal, MMA first, boxing second.

"I know you have an extensive wrestling background, and balls the size of a Bengal tiger. They’re asking for a fight, it’ll be hundreds of millions on the line.

"'What’s up?', I said and then he goes, ‘I don’t fancy taking a kick off Conor McGregor’, that’s what he said. You have to respect that."

McGregor is no stranger to making the crossover after he faced Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match in 2017, but it was a night to forget for the Irishman who was stopped in the tenth round.
