Could Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua fight next?

The DAZN Boxing Show discussed Tyson Fury’s and Anthony Joshua's options for their next fights.

Fury is soon to be told his mandatory opponent by the WBC, where he is the current heavyweight champion, and the rumoured candidates feature Deontay Wilder for a fourth fight, former unified champion Anthony Joshua, and Joshua’s foe Andy Ruiz.

Each of them would probably pose a sterner test than Fury’s last opponent, Derek Chisora, who was soundly beaten last December, and also compared to some of the crossover fighters he has apparently entertained from UFC.

Additionally, there is a chance that a fight against current three-belt champion Oleksandr Usyk could materialise towards the end of the year, if Saudi Arabian organisers can pull off a huge event.

But both Akin Reyes and Barak Bess had their doubts about what was really being discussed.

Reyes even wondered: “Is this guy going to fight in 2023?”

Bess replied: “You never know with Fury.  I think he just likes to put names out there. I think he likes the news to be relevant, whether there’s something concrete or not.  You never know if he knows who he’s fighting and he’s just playing around with us.

“He doesn’t care. Maybe Saudi Arabia already made an offer for him to fight Usyk in December, and also Joshua will fight Deontay Wilder on the same card, and that’s in the works. To see him fight Joshua as the mandatory, that’s great too.

“I like Joshua’s plans of [Jermaine] Franklin, then go to Dillian Whye, because you’re trying to work with Derrick James and getting better at sharpening up your skill set, and then fight Fury.

“He’s shown us that he’s barely had any easy fights. He fought Dillian Whyte back in the day, then look at Franklin, he couldn’t get him out of there.”
