Daniel Dubois is facing a lengthy period away from boxing after the extent of his injury against Kevin Lerena earlier this month has been revealed.

Dubois was dropped heavily in the fight’s opening round before going down another two times as it became clear that the original shot had caused more damage than first thought.

Despite the disastrous start, Dubois showed immense bravery to recover and scored a stoppage in the fight’s third session.

With the dust now settled following the up and down brawl, Dubois, who holds the WBA regular belt, is set to be out of action until the middle part of 2023 after confirmation he has torn his ACL.

“Well, it’s interesting, Dan has a tear on his ACL,” said Barry McGuigan, the father of Dubois’ trainer, Shane when speaking to Pro Boxing Fans

"As soon as we got the news that he had a tear on his ACL, suddenly he was offered the fight, [with Usyk] which he can’t have. He can’t box for six months now anyway because of the repair time.”
