After two years of delays, Josh Kelly will finally get his welterweight litmus test when he challenges European champion David Avanesyan.
Victory is a must for Kelly if he wishes to move on to challenge at world level, or even pursue big domestic fights such as Conor Benn.
“I think I can go right to the top. I’m an underdog; I enjoy being an underdog,” said Kelly about his upcoming bout. “It’s not just a win against David Avanesyan; it’s a win against this so-called monster. So I’m ready. It’s a massive step up and a massive gain.
“I think everyone knows what kind of fighter David Avanesyan is. The fight has got to happen now. It’s been too long in the making, like he said. It’s got to happen, and it’s going to happen. I expect nonstop pressure from David. That’s what I prepared for."
