One fight which fans want to see in the super middleweight division is the undisputed champion, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, taking on David Benavidez.
Benavidez has been in a prime position to challenge the Mexican for some time, but any efforts to make the contest have been unsuccessful.
With Alvarez's plans for 2024 yet to be determined, it looked like Benavidez could finally get this shot at super middleweight glory, but according to promoter Sampson Lewkowicz, this particular fight will not be happening.
"No," Lewkowicz responded when asked by ProBox TV whether a fight between Alvarez and Benavidez will take place in 2024.
“Canelo Alvarez will make his legacy and his legacy will be stained, because he did not fight the best at this time which is Benavidez.
“I think the children, maybe the grandchildren one day, will ask him why he did not fight Benavidez, because he [Canelo] says he wants the best fights, but that’s the best fight.
"Now he says he’s going to fight an American [in Las Vegas on May 4], at one moment in the contract it was [Jermall] Charlo, now we don’t know who the American might be."
