Malik Scott has revealed who’s on the target list of Deontay Wilder, and it doesn’t include a fascinating showdown with Andy Ruiz.

With both heavyweights fighting under the PBC banner, it had been expected that the two former world champions would collide in 2023, but Scott, the trainer of Wilder, insists his man has bigger ambitions.

Wilder returns to the ring this weekend for the first time in over a year when he faces Robert Helenius on Saturday night.

Last October, the heavy-handed American delivered impressively when trying to gain revenge over Tyson Fury, but he was topped in the fight’s penultimate round. Wilder is looking to make a quick return to the division's highest level.

“It’s the second half of his career, he’s not in this for the money, but the fight he should take (next) is a high-profile, big-time fight,” said Scott when speaking to BBC Sport.

“It’d be Oleksandr Usyk or it’d be Anthony Joshua next. I’m not interested in Deontay fighting Andy Ruiz or Frank Sanchez, none of those guys. He wants to be undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.”
