The WBC lightweight champion is in action this weekend

Sergio Mora believes that Devin Haney should be careful in his fight against experienced lightweight Jorge Linares.

Linares has held belts across three weight classes and the 35-year-old Venezuelan believes he can spring a surprise at the weekend as the pair fight for Haney’s WBC belt this Saturday in an event shown globally on DAZN.

“Linares brings a lot of things to the table, but one of the main things is experience.” Mora explained on JABS as part of the DAZN Boxing Show.

“He’s been to the very top and fought the very best. One of things about beating them, they’ve been tough, rugged Mexican fighters, but he’s been stopped by those fighters because he struggles with them. Vasiliy Lomachnko, he was able to drop and get some respect.

“I think with Devin Haney it’s going to be a chess match, like it was with Lomachenko, so there’s going to have to be speed, find that mid range. Linares has that excellent right hand. He doesn't pull it back, he throws it from here, six inches, and that’s an excellent punch to land on Haney.

“It has to be single punches and hopefully Devin Haney falls behind and you catch him later with something big.”

Mora claimed that Linares had been impressive in his training so far, even saying the fighter had been sending his sparring partners to the canvas.

“He’s dropping guys in sparring, he’s working on his power. His combinations have always been top notch. It’s going to be a dangerous fight and as long as he had enough time to prepare, I think he’s going to be fine for this fight,” Mora predicted.
