WBC champion Devin Haney has hit back at rival ‘Franchise’ champion Teofimo Lopez after the unified champion said Haney was one-dimensional.
Haney was appearing on the DAZN Boxing Show ahead of his fight this weekend with Jorge Linares in an event shown globally on DAZN when asked about Lopez’s comments over recent days, including saying he would stop Haney in the third round should they ever meet in the ring.
The 22-year-old American though was largely untroubled.
“He can say what he wants but we have to get in the ring and do it. I can say what I'd do to him and what he’d do to me, but unless we get in the ring it’s pointless to go back and forth,” he said.
“My main focus is Linares because those fights don’t happen without a win from beating Jorge Linares.”
Haney pointed out that the style had secured him success so far, and it is his WBC belt which stops Lopez being able to truly claim to be the undisputed lightweight champion, in the eyes of some.
“We can say I’m a one-dimensional fighter but nobody can stop me so that one-dimensional thing is very good,” he said.
“I don’t think anyone has won around for me and I’m doing it well and will continue to do it.”
