Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia: Eddie Hearn explains why fight can be made quicklyChris Esqueda/Golden Boy Promotions
The two fighters have talked up a potential clash.

Eddie Hearn has backed the idea of a title fight between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia.

The two super lightweight have been in action over the last fortnight. Haney is now WBC champion after defeating the incumbent, Regis Prograis, on Saturday night, and Garcia made a winning comeback the weekend before as he defeated Oscar Duarte.

While lightweight remains a division teeming with talent, 140lbs is perhaps now the most exciting weight class and in the aftermath of the weekend, there is no shortage of speculation about what goes down next.

Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Hearn discussed the options ahead for Haney, and he said that with both Haney and Garcia fighting on DAZN, it perhaps the logical fight to take place.

“Generally, when a super fight gets made, there’s a couple of conversations between the teams or the networks,” he said. “Obviously, there’s two different networks there. I think it’s a great fight and one we could look forward to, but for me, I look at the Ryan Garcia fight. We should be making it like that.

“Both guys [Haney & Ryan] are with DAZN. Ryan should be wanting that fight and should be wanting to challenge for belts at 140. I think Ryan and Golden Boy might look at Devin and say, ‘Okay, not as big a puncher as Tank maybe. I know he’s got great movement, but I think we can win that fight.’

“I think that’s the fight to make, I really do, especially when you talk about the speed of making a fight like that. I can’t see the others getting together at pace in making that fight.”

“I think Devin has big plans and big belief in himself, and he wants to fight the very best. He never wanted the fight before, and Devin said this recently.

“Until he [Haney] started selling out arenas and doing numbers and beating Lomachenko, we were calling for the Ryan Garcia fight well before the Kambosos fight. If Oscar [De La Hoya. Golden Boy Promotions] will take the challenge and Ryan will take the challenge, and I believe they might do, we’d love to get it made as soon as possible."
