Luke Campbell, an Olympic gold medalist and former opponent of Ryan Garcia, has made his prediction for Garcia's upcoming fight against Devin Haney.
The retired British fighter faced Garcia back in 2021 in what turned out to be his last professional outing. Campbell managed to cause problems for Garcia and knocked down the American in the second round of their contest, but it would be Garcia who would get the victory with a stoppage in round seven.
Garcia has since been involved in a number of major fights, most notably last year against Gervonta Davis which Garcia would go onto lose.
Now the 25-year-old is set for his first world title shot against the WBC super lightweight on Saturday night live on DAZN PPV , and despite being considered by many to be the underdog, Campbell believes Garcia has every chance of inflicting the first loss of Haney's career.
"People are talking like he’s already lost the fight and he’s been done – and done bad," Campbell told Boxing Scene .
"He’s fighting Devin Haney – I was very impressed with the way he beat [Regis] Prograis – but Devin Haney’s a very, very good fighter. If he gets rid of Devin Haney, that catapults him right up that list. Depending on if he beats Devin Haney, or how he beats Devin Haney…
“If both guys bring their A-game – I believe Devin will bring his A-game, because that’s what he does; he brings his A-game to every fight. If Ryan Garcia brings his A-game, at times he could be too much for Devin.
"Devin’s a very technical fighter; hasn’t got much punch power, but enough to tell you he’s there and to bust your face up a little bit. He’s been hurt by Linares, so you never know – Garcia could do a job on him. I think Garcia, potentially, by knockout, or Haney can outbox him on points.”
