Akin Reyes and Barak Bess discussed Richard Commey’s chances against Jose Ramirez on Saturday night.
Commey was once the IBF world lightweight champion but is now moving up to super lightweight as he prepares to take on former unified champion at 140lbs, Ramirez.
While Ramirez is the favourite going into the clash, the DAZN Boxing Show discussed his chances of springing a surprise.
Bess did not rule out a win for the Ghanaian
“Of course Commey has a shot, what he’s fighting against is a new weight class,” he said.
“He’s moving up to 140, he was successful at 135 - had a title, IBF, until he fought Teofimo Lopez.
“He’s skillful, he has experience, he can beat a boxer. I think it’s great styles clashing, This is going to be a great fight. Not too much backing up, not too much holding, they're going to let their hands go. Does Commey have the hands to knock out a bigger guy, to hurt a bigger guy?”
Ak meanwhile was a little more pessimistic over his chances, pointing out his struggles in a fight against Vasyl Lomachenko.
He explained: “He didn’t hurt Lomachenko, he landed some shots and, look, maybe 140 is better for him.
“Maybe he struggles to make 135 and he’s more powerful. He might be more comfortable at that weight class. That remains to be seen. I don’t see Commey getting by a guy as young and aggressive as Jose Ramirez so I see him getting past that fight.”
