If it was up to Eddie Hearn, Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury would finally step into the ring together next year.

Joshua is at a career crossroads after losing to Daniel Dubois in spectacular fashion over the weekend, with Dubois knocking "AJ" out in the fifth round to successfully defend his IBF world heavyweight championship.

That result leaves Joshua to consider his future as he has a rematch clause with Dubois, who is expected to return to action within a few months.

"Daniel Dubois is probably going to fight in February," Hearn told DAZN's Ade Oladipo.

"Are we ready to go in February? Is that the right move for us? That's the next decision."

While Joshua has shown a propensity to jump straight back into a rematch after losing a fight, as he did against Andy Ruiz in 2019 and Oleksandr Usyk in 2022, Hearn believes a long-awaited showdown with Tyson Fury could also be on the table.

Joshua and Fury have both been among the top heavyweights in the world for the past decade, yet they've never squared off despite the huge appeal for such a bout.

With Fury now 36 years old and Joshua weeks away from turning 35, Hearn noted that the clock is ticking on the British fighters to finally meet inside the squared circle.

"Do we wait for December 21 and see what happens with Tyson Fury [against Usyk], or do we jump straight back into Daniel Dubois?" Hearn said. "For me, we have to fight Tyson Fury before he's done.

"You know, I said to AJ the other night, I said, 'You've got somewhere between one and three fights left,' and it all went very quiet on the phone. It's like the realization, 'wow.' He don't want to leave the sport. He loves it.

"But we as a team will make sure that he leaves the sport at the right time, and you leave when you're deteriorating and when it's showing in the gym, and when you're not sparring well, you're getting hurt, etc, etc. And none of that's happening, by the way.

He added: "If Tyson Fury loses against Oleksandr Usyk, my advice would be for those two to have two fights in 2025 and then sail off into the sunset. May the best man win.

"If Fury wins against Usyk, AJ can fight Fury for the unified world heavyweight championship."
